Information sought after attempted cash machine theft

Police are appealing for information following the attempted theft of a cash machine in Uckfield.

The suspects gained entry to the foyer of the HSBC branch in the High Street around 3am on Friday 15 January, but were not able to remove the cash machine.

A similar incident occurred at the HSBC branch in Lewes High Street on Monday 18 January where once again they gained access to the premises but were again unsuccessful in removing the machine.

Sussex Police are believe these two incidents are part of a wider series of attempted robberies across the South East, and are working with neighbouring forces.

Detective Chief Inspector Alasdair Henry said, “If anyone has any information about either of the burglaries, or if they recognise the people pictured in the CCTV image, please get in touch. This includes if you have witnessed somebody acting suspiciously in the vicinity of a bank or ATM.

No matter how small you think the information may be, it could help us piece together a bigger picture of what has happened and help us identify those responsible.”

Sussex Police are asking for any information on the people in the CCTV image to be reported to 101 quoting Operation Kafka.

Any information can be reported to police online. You can also call 101. If you’d prefer to give information anonymously, contact independent charity Crimestoppers.
