Weekend Sporting roundup

There was an excellent win for AFC Uckfield Town

The team came from behind to beat Horsham YMCA two-one at the Oaks. After trailing one-nil at half-time, second-half goals from Jamie Wilkes and Jack Walder secured the three points for Uckfield, who finished the match with ten men following a red card for Farrall Ryder.

In minor league football, Buxted and Maresfield had their games postponed.  But elsewhere there were plenty of goals in the matches involving our other main local teams.  Nutley won five-four at Copthorne’s ‘A’ team.  Fletching thrashed AFC Hurst seven-one, but Newick lost four-three to Lectern Lights, and in the Sussex Junior Cup, Uckfield United had a good four-one win at home to AFC Hollington.

In the Isthmian Premier Division, Lewes picked up a point from a one-all draw at Bishops Stortford. It was a one-all draw as well for Brighton and Hove Albion, who had to settle for a point against win-less Newcastle at the Amex Stadium.

In the Women’s Super League, Brighton’s ladies team defeated Everton by the only goal, while in the Championship, Lewes’s ladies lost two-one at home to Watford.
