In Saturday’s local football, there was disappointment for AFC Uckfield Town
The team were knocked out of the FA Vase at the first hurdle, following a three-two defeat by Colliers Wood at the Oaks. Uckfield took the lead just before half-time through Morgan Vale, but the visitors replied with three goals in the second half, before Tyler Pearson pulled a goal back with an injury-time penalty.
Uckfield are back at the Oaks tomorrow evening, when they host Littlehampton in a league match, kicking-off at 7.30 pm.
In the Mid Sussex League, there was a thumping victory for Uckfield United, who won six-nil at Scaynes Hill Reserves. It was a much closer affair for Ridgewood, who won four-three at neighbours Buxted. There was an amazing game for Fletching, who lost six-five at Burgess Hill Rhinos. Nutley lost two-one at home to Reigate Priory Reserves, and Newick were beaten three-two at AFC Hurst.
In the Isthmian Premier Division, there was an excellent win for Lewes, who defeated the previously unbeaten Enfield Town four-one. There was a fine win too for Brighton and Hove Albion, who scored the only goal of the game at Brentford in stoppage time to move up to fourth place in the Premier League.
Sussex’s cricketers enjoyed a good opening day in their penultimate County Championship match of the season at Leicestershire yesterday. Sussex ended the day on 310 for four, with Ben Brown not out on 111.
For local horse racing fans, there’s another meeting at Brighton this afternoon, with the first race due off at ten past two.
Congratulations to everyone from the Uckfield FM area who completed yesterday’s Brighton Marathon.
