In local football, there was no game on Saturday for AFC Uckfield Town.
There was plenty of action for our other local teams on the first full weekend of the new Mid Sussex League season.
Uckfield United got their new campaign off to a winning start with a two-one victory at home to Eastbourne Athletic. Nutley came away from their visit to Crawley with a one-nil win against Stones FC, while Fletching won three-one at Eastbourne Rangers Reserves. But, there were defeats for Ridgewood, who went down four-nil at Eastbourne-based Sovereign Saints, and for Buxted, who lost three-two at Ashurst Wood.
There was disappointment for Lewes, as they went out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle after a two-one defeat at home to the Metropolitan Police.
On the final weekend of the Sussex Cricket League season, Uckfield Anderida went down to a narrow 14-run defeat at Buxted Park’s second team. Buxted Park’s first eleven ended their promotion-winning season on a high note with an emphatic 141-run victory at RMU, with Craig Olive taking six for 29.
Newick had an exciting two-wicket win at home to East Dean and Friston. Fletching beat Plumpton and East Chiltington by 36 runs. Nutley had a six-wicket win over Linden Park’s fourth team, while Blackboys beat Herstmonceux’s second team by 84 runs.
Elsewhere, there were defeats for Isfield and Maresfield. In county cricket, Sussex begin a Championship match against Middlesex this morning at the County Ground Hove.
Finally, for local horse racing fans, there’s a meeting at Brighton this afternoon, with the first race due off at one o’clock.
