Weekend Sporting Round Up

Despite the mixed bag of weather some fixtures took place

On Saturday, there was a disappointing start to the new season for AFC Uckfield Town, as they went down to a 3-0 home defeat to Saltdean, one of the title favourites for the Southern Combination League this campaign.  The visitors took an early lead in the first half and then scored twice early in the second half to wrap up the victory.

In their opening pre-season friendly, Uckfield United won 2-1 at Welcroft Park Rangers.

In other friendlies, Lewes were 3-2 winners at local rivals Eastbourne Borough, while Brighton and Hove Albion won 3-1 at Luton.

In the weekend’s local cricket, Uckfield Anderida were beaten by Dicker by 8 wickets in a rain-affected match at the Victoria Ground. Buxted Park and Newick maintained their promotion challenges with 7 wicket wins over Isfield and Ringmer respectively.  Fletching were involved in the tightest of finishes, winning by one run at Dome Mission.  Blackboys won at Willingdon’s second team by five wickets, there were defeats for Maresfield and Nutley.

Sussex’s county team suffered another defeat in a thrilling finish in the Royal London One-Day Cup at Hove yesterday.  The Sharks lost to Gloucestershire by just three runs.

There was a convincing victory for the Eastbourne Eagles speedway team on Saturday night, as they defeated Plymouth Gladiators by 54 points to 36 at the Arlington Stadium.
