It was a good day for Uckfield sport on Saturday
The day saw excellent wins for the town’s senior football and rugby teams.
AFC Uckfield Town got back to winning ways with a three-one victory over Loxwood at the Oaks. Uckfield’s scorers were Morgan Vale, Nathan Hover and Olly Lee. There was an emphatic victory for Uckfield rugby club, who made it three wins out of three, as they beat Hellingly by 55 points to 15 at Hempstead Fields.
In the Mid Sussex Football League, Ridgewood were two-one winners over Sovereign Saints, while Uckfield United drew one-all at Eastbourne Athletic. There was a first win of the season for Newick, who beat Burgess Hill Rhinos four-three.
Nutley went down four-two at ‘Open Arms’. The weekend also saw defeats for Fletching, who lost three-one at Portslade, and for Maresfield, who were beaten four-three by ‘The View Saturday’.
In the Premier League, Brighton and Hove Albion had to settle for a point from a goal-less draw at bottom club Norwich. In women’s football, Lewes Ladies beat Charlton two-nil yesterday in the Championship.
In other local rugby, Newick were beaten 43 points to ten by East Grinstead’s second team.
For local horse racing fans, there’s a meeting this afternoon at Plumpton, with the first race due off at five to two.
