A pretty wet weekend, but some games went ahead still
In Saturday’s local cricket, Uckfield Anderida went down to a five-wicket defeat at league leaders Hailsham’s second team.
Uckfield were bowled out for just 92, before the hosts reached their target inside 23 overs. In the Sussex Cricket League, the game of the day was at Nutley, where the match against Westfield ended in a tie, with both teams scoring 98. Warren Freer was the star for Nutley, taking seven for 33.
Buxted Park continued their recent run of good form with a convincing eight-wicket win at East Grinstead’s seconds. There was another good result for Newick, who won at Chiddingly by four wickets, thanks largely to 83 from Joe Waylett.
Isfield lost a high-scoring game at Mayfield’s second team by 19 runs. There were also defeats for Maresfield, who lost at Newhaven by 139 runs, and for Blackboys, who were beaten by Robertsbridge’s seconds by 71 runs.
Sussex’s match in the Royal London Cup against Durham at Hove yesterday was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to heavy rain.
In local football, AFC Uckfield Town drew their latest pre-season friendly with Jarvis Brook one-all.
Uckfield have another friendly match at the Oaks tomorrow evening, when they face Bearsted.
