Crowborough-born Evie was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma at the age of 2-and-a-half. She had 18 months of treatment; chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy, high dose
chemotherapy and finally immunotherapy.
Evie was one of the very lucky ones who walked out at the end of her treatment cancer-free and she has remained that way for 8 years now.
Evie lost her hair twice during her treatment and had always said for that she would like to do something to help other children who are going through what she went through.
The restrictions on hairdressers during the pandemic resulted in Evie’s hair growing to new lengths, which gave her an idea… that she would donate her lockdown locks to The Little
Princess Trust who would use her hair to make wigs for other children and young people going through cancer treatment.
That wasn’t enough…
In addition, she wanted to ask for sponsorship so she could raise money for another key local charity – the Children with Cancer Fund in Polegate.
This charity gives crucial support to families and helped us in so many ways, they even funded part of Evie’s wish trip to Give Kids the World in Florida at the end of her treatment.
It’s really important also not to forget about smaller local charities who work tirelessly to help families on a day-to-day basis but are often overlooked. The Children with Cancer Fund is a close-knit network of volunteers which do so much, from granting wishes to buying gifts or much needed white goods for people when they need them most.
Celebrity John Stamos gets behind Evie’s campaign Evie is a huge fan of the US sitcoms Full House and Fuller House. When we were just a few days into the fundraising we shared some news of what we were doing on social media and one of the stars (her favourite in fact) John Stamos responded and shared a link to the campaign on his Twitter profile. He was even kind enough to make a generous donation. It gave our fundraising a huge boost and blew Evie away – she couldn’t believe that one of her favourite celebrities had sponsored her!
The family have been overwhelmed by the support we have seen so far. So many generous people have made donations and sent words of encouragement which we are so thankful for.
We’re also looking forward to being able to support our local hairdresser when they reopen! Evie is booked in to get her hair cut at Bliss on May 22nd.
Evie is so excited to give to these amazing charities and would appreciate any donation, no matter how small via her Go Fund Me page. https://www.gofundme.com/f/mmf63-evies-fundraiser
