New road diversions coming in Uckfield

On July 24, UK Power Networks is due to return to New Town, Uckfield.

This is to install cable ducts between Highlands Roundabout and the junction of Framfield Road. They aim to complete the installation of cable ducts in New Town by 3 September.

For safety reasons, a temporary one-way system will be in place on New Town enabling northbound traffic access only from Lewes Road and Eastbourne Road into Uckfield High Street, meaning there will be no southbound access from Uckfield High Street to Lewes Road or Eastbourne Road during the work. UKPN have devised a diversion route to redirect traffic via the B2102, A22 and Eastbourne Road.

They said “We have worked closely with the local highways authority to determine a traffic management plan, incorporating a diversion route for local traffic, HGVs and buses”. Signed diversion routes will maintain traffic flow in the area.

They reported they will be working every day, using a trenchless technique and excavations, to complete the work as quickly as possible.

A spokesperson said: “We always try to work considerately with the local communities we serve and have engaged with many residents and businesses in the area. We hope this rescheduled work, during the school holidays, will minimise the inconvenience.”
