In local football, despite taking the lead shortly before half-time, AFC Uckfield Town went down to a four-one defeat at home to Newhaven in their latest Supplementary Shield match at the Oaks. Uckfield’s goal was scored by Rex Lane.
In the Mid Sussex League, Uckfield United were beaten three-two at Ditchling Reserves, there were wins for Buxted, who defeated Balcombe Reserves four-one, and for Newick, who kept up their recent unbeaten run with a four-two victory over AFC Ringmer’s third team.
Fletching’s home clash with AFC Hurst ended in a one-all draw, while Maresfield lost four-nil at home to Scaynes Hill, on Friday night, Ridgewood drew one-all against Mile Oak Reserves.
In local cricket, Uckfield Anderida lost their opening pre-season friendly, as they were beaten by Pevensey by 100 runs at the Victoria Ground. Buxted Park had a 167-run win over East Grinstead’s second eleven.
There was an excellent win for Sussex’s county team yesterday, as they beat Glamorgan by eight wickets in their latest Championship match at Cardiff. Fast-bowler Ollie Robinson was the star of the show for Sussex with career-best figures of nine for 78 in the Welshmen’s second innings.
