In Saturday’s local cricket, Uckfield Anderida’s first home match of the season had to be abandoned as a draw because of rain, with the game finely balanced. Uckfield posted 174 for 9 with Peter Holman top-scoring with 81. The visitors reached 113 for 5 before rain prevented any further play.
In the Sussex Cricket League, Buxted Park suffered a narrow defeat, losing by just four runs against Rottingdean. In other tight finishes, Nutley edged home by one wicket against Willingdon’s second team, whilst Isfield were beaten by Keymer and Hassocks by two wickets.
Meanwhile, Fletching lost at home to Balcombe by 93 runs. The matches involving Newick, Maresfield and Blackboys were all abandoned as draws without a ball being bowled.
Sussex’s County Championship match with Kent at Hove, which had been badly disrupted by the weather, ended in a draw.
