Wealden District Council have advised of an increase in food waste contamination in recycling bins.
Residents are doing a good job of recycling around 50% of our total waste, however the council have advised 16 tonnes of recycling was recently rejected as it contained a large quantity of food waste.
On these occasions the entire load is incinerated, meaning recyclable material can end up wasted.
The advice is to not put even small amounts of food into your recycling bin. Also, ensure there is no liquid remaining in bottles, cans and containers that have been rinsed out.
