Celebrating Wealden’s tourism sector during Tourism Week

English Tourism Week is next week 22-31 May.

Led by Visit England, the week is an annual celebration highlighting the importance, value and contribution the sector makes to the UK economy.

“Tourism plays a significant role for the economy in Wealden. In 2019, the total value of tourism was around £368.75 million. This included 0.47 million overnight stays and 5.97 million day trips.” says Councillor Roy Galley, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, “As hospitality opens up; we know it is more important than ever to support our tourism businesses and their contribution to the visitor economy.”

Wealden District Council have been working hard behind the scenes to find ways they can support tourism in the District. One example of this is their recent partnership with Sussex Modern.

Bringing together a unique experience of thirty-six memorable places including contemporary art, ancient landscapes and innovative winemakers. Sussex Modern encourages visitors to embrace the culture, wine and landscapes of Sussex.

When the time is right, Sussex Modern are poised to create new campaigns attracting visitors to the region. This will be a great start in rebuilding the visitor economy both in Wealden and across Sussex.
