Winning weekend for Buxted Park Sunday X1

Buxted Park CC 273-3 off 40 overs
Cuckfield CC 195-5 off 40 overs

The Buxted Park Sunday XI faced Cuckfield in the early Autumn sun, and with the winter drawing in the batsmen did not want to waste a ball.

The father/son combination of Colin and Finley Coddington got Buxted Park underway with Finley falling early for 5 (a rarity on a Sunday).

This brought Ollie Jones (40) to the crease who built a strong partnership with Colin which quickly took Buxted to 150-1 off 25 overs. Colin was mixing hard swinging and cultured shots in his innings and did not look threatened as he raced to 100 retired including 18 boundaries.

His retirement saw Ryan Banham (50*) enter the fray, who looked to rotate the strike early on and reached 50 effortlessly towards the end of the innings. He was ably supported by Ric Haynes who put together a good cameo of 25 to leave Buxted on a mammoth total of 273-3 off of their allotted 40 overs.

Cuckfield had to respond quickly as they chased such a big score, and at 31-0 off of 5 they looked in good shape. But openers Isaac Heater (1-11) and Reece Wood (0-30) managed to wrestle back momentum and allow the spinners some more freedom to try and take wickets.

For Cuckfield, D. Downey (71) looked comfortable and swept especially well on what was a spinner friendly wicket. Ollie Loach took a useful 3 wickets meaning that Cuckfield were never able to ignite a match-winning partnership. County League footballer Jack Webber swapped sports for the day, and bowled a very accurate two overs at the death, which will hopefully leave him in good stead for his maiden competitive season in 2021.

The Sunday XI end the shortened 2020 season with a record of 6 wins and 1 defeat in their 7 games.
