While Specsavers Uckfield in the High Street are closed for all routine eye and hearing tests at the moment, they are still open to provide essential care and support local keyworkers.
Customers are being encouraged to call the store on 01825 746750 if they need urgent support with a visual problem, or if they have issues with their glasses, contact lenses or hearing aids.
If anyone is required to attend the store, they will be asked to do so – and key workers will be prioritised. Any face to face contact will be minimal, and will be handled in line with current Government guidelines.
Last week, the team supported a customer who called the store after noticing a loss of vision in his right eye. He was found to have a retinal detachment, and had surgery the same day at the eye hospital.
The store also supported a local GP who needed to get a patient screened for diabetic retinopathy urgently. The local screening programme had stopped, but the team were able to help – and the GP was able to use these results to give the patient the correct treatment.
Badrinath Mohandas, store director in Uckfield, said: ‘Eye health really matters, and these examples show just how much urgent access to an optician can make a difference. We are proud to be able to serve the people of Uckfield all the time, but especially at this challenging time for all of us.
‘We want the local community to know that, while we are closed for routine appointments at the present time, we are still very much here to support people with their essential eye and hearing care needs – so please give us a call if you need us.’
