In the weekend’s local football, despite switching their scheduled home fixture with Peacehaven and Telscombe to their opponent’s ground, it was another blank day for AFC Uckfield Town, as Peacehaven’s pitch was unable to withstand a downpour on Saturday morning and became waterlogged.
Weather permitting, Uckfield will be hoping to see some action tomorrow evening, when they are due to visit Eastbourne United in the quarter-final of the Peter Bentley Cup.
Not surprisingly, the local village football programme was hugely disrupted by the weather. The only team from our main local village sides to play at the weekend was Fletching – they lost two-one at Eastbourne Rangers Reserves.
In the Betvictor Premier Division, Lewes picked up a point from a one-all draw at fellow strugglers Wingate and Finchley.
And, it was another disappointing result for Brighton and Hove Albion, who are now only one point above the relegation zone in the Premier League, following a one-nil defeat by arch rivals Crystal Palace at the Amex Stadium.
Finally, Uckfield rugby club enjoyed a comfortable win by 38 points to nil over bottom club the Old Williamsonians at a muddy Hempstead Fields.
