Parents Panto The Wizard of OZ ( Oh yes it was )

The Friends of St Philip’s have put on ‘The Wizard of Oz’, written and directed by the very talented Sarah Cannon and played by an amazing cast of parents from the school.

The school panto has been running for over 30 years and Sarah, who is an ex-parent of the school, performed in many of the first pantomimes to be staged at St Philip’s. She has grandchildren in year 2 and Reception at the school and was tempted back to the PTA Panto scene last year, when she wrote and directed ‘Peter Pan’, which was a huge success.

‘The best St Philip’s Panto yet’ one of many comments in a rush of positive feedback for ‘The Wizard of Oz’. This was truly a team effort by the parents of St Philip’s school – excellent scenery and sets, music, sound effects, costumes, make up and an impressive backstage team. This ensured a smooth vehicle for a professional cast that ‘wowed’ its appreciative audience. Comedy, fear, pathos, love and intelligent acting complimented the wonderful ‘Dorothy’ as we accompanied her down the Yellow Brick Road.

Gerry Shelley staged a fantastic lighting show to enhance the performance, with live music provided throughout by Dominic Hartley on the keyboards and amazing sound effects by the talented Harry Cannon, an ex-pupil of St Philip’s.

This is one of the main fundraisers for the school and the cast and crew are thrilled to have raised in excess of £3000 for the school. We are very grateful to all of our sponsors, who helped to cover the cost of stage lighting.

Thank you to Peter Oliver, CRB Construction Limited, Lewis Business Media, Quarry Printing, Homefront Lindyhop, Uckfield Rugby Club, The Picture House Uckfield, Uckfield Theatre Guild, French’s Fancy Dress, Mearsy Service, Downsview Dairy and Tina Elstone. This year the Friends of St Philip’s are raising funds for various school projects and ongoing requests for equipment by the school.
