Godparents to be celebrated in Ringmer

A church in Ringmer, east Sussex is commemorating Godparents’ Sunday on 5 July and the whole community has been called on to help.

With public worship and large gatherings are still uncertain in many areas churches are thinking creatively about how to mark this and other important days in the Christian calendar.

Godparents play an important role in the upbringing of many children and young people – it is a relationship that will last for a lifetime.

Marissa Hayes, Children’s Worker at St Mary’s Ringmer, said: “Although there will be no formal worship in church, the building will be open and the church will be using its website and Facebook to celebrate the many gifts and promises of Baptism and there will be a special family-friendly service available online.

“Over 40 children and young people have been baptised at St Mary’s in the past five years and we have a special Baptism Tree on permanent display.

“We are now looking to connect with these families again and are asking them to share a special picture of the day.  The challenge is not limited to all recent Baptisms at St Mary’s – we want to celebrate all Baptism stories and find the longest Godparent-Godchild relationship too.”
