Louise Jago is the proprieter of Barneys’s Playbarn and this morning she spoke to Tony about the challenge now of getting it open. (17th August)
**News Update – Friday 14th August** Following the governments announcement that soft play areas can open Louise Jago has responded this morning:
There is still no good news for some businesses as to when they can open their doors following the Covid – 19 pandemic.
An Uckfield business that has been affected badly is the family run business on Bellbrook Industrial Estate, Barney’s Playbarn.
The proprietor of the company Louise Jago took to social media yesterday after the government had no news for soft play area when the Prime Minister said ‘Nightclubs, soft play areas – sadly – need to remain closed for now, although this will be kept under review’
She said on Facebook ‘Gutted. That was a great non announcement, no real update or time frame for us. Still to remain closed and no mention of any funding. Just us and nightclubs to remain closed. We have now become a victim of poor soft-foot operators, the ones that for years creamed the money in whilst not caring about hygiene standards.
‘The sector is always the butt of jokes and comments about “sticky feet” and lets not mention the ball pools, which we don’t have because we like to be on top of our cleanliness. Its sad that the perception is our play areas are dirty and germ ridden, they aren’t, we are as safe as trampoline centres, and climbing walls if not safer!
She added ‘What are we suppose to do? How are we suppose to pay our bills and rent and contribute to staff costs and pay staff when furlough ends when we have NO income? Are we expected to just close up shop indefinitely? 8 years of hard work, blood, sweat and tears down the pan
A Change petition has been set up to ask the Govenrment to review as soon as possible.
The Uckfield Chamber of Commerce have said on their Facebook group:
‘This is very sad and we feel for Louise and her team at Barney’s Play – Sussex Ltd – more than 2,500 people like their Facebook page – please sign the petition at change.org within the link below to rescue the indoor play industry… This is an important business for the wellbeing of many families within the Uckfield community… We wish them well’
