Abbeyfield South Downs is set to launch a new affordable rental development for older people in Heathfield. Holdenhurst is a new development of 48 affordable, rental apartments offering enhanced sheltered housing in a care-enabled environment, designed for people that may need extra support to live independently, now or in the future. The property’s show apartment opens in January and the scheme itself will open in late spring 2021.
Holdenhurst offers one and two bed apartments finished to a high standard for affordable rental. With homely surroundings and excellent facilities, residents will be able to enjoy an active and fulfilling life as part of the Abbeyfield South Downs family. Each apartment is completely self-contained with its own front door, providing residents with privacy and security.
The monthly charge is set at an affordable level, which means Housing Benefit awards will cover all of the rent and some of the service element. The monthly rent includes the service of on-site staff, the maintenance and upkeep of the building, as well as a two-course cooked meal every day. As a not for profit organisation, Holdenhurst will reinvest any surplus income back into the services provided.
Nolan Taylor, Chief Executive, Abbeyfield South Downs, commented: ‘The development of Holdenhurst marks a new chapter for Abbeyfield South Downs, with it being almost a decade in the making. We will provide exceptional care-enabled housing for the local community. Our tenants will be able to live independently knowing they are safe and secure with supportive staff on hand. We are incredibly proud to have obtained funding and support to build a development that is somewhat unique in our region as a 100 per cent rental scheme.’
Holdenhurst is designed to be a supportive, vibrant and like-minded community where active, independent living is at its heart. Residents will be able to get involved as much or as little as they wish, with the freedom to live independently.
Holdenhurst offers a range of features and services. The development includes a hairdressing salon, as well as a wellbeing suite for exercise, activities, and crafts. Residents will be able to book additional guests for lunch in the restaurant or host special occasions and events in the communal spaces.
As lovely as Holdenhurst is, tenants will be free to come and go as they please. They will be able to make use of the ample opportunities to get out and about and enjoy all that we have on the doorstep.
