FREE REBOOT programme helps young people to keep active at home in second ‘lockdown’

Active Sussex have teamed up again with the Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner’s REBOOT programme to provide young people and their families with access to free local sports and activities directly into their homes during the second ‘lockdown’.

Active Sussex work hard with partners to increase participation in sport and physical activity at a local level. As part of their #StayActiveSussex movement they started a schedule of free home workouts in the first lockdown months engaging over 7,000 young people and families.

Now that the UK is in the middle of a second lockdown the Active Sussex team are back working with REBOOT to encourage young people and their families across the county to take part in this movement again.

Another ‘call for service’ was issued to local youth sports/fitness clubs across Sussex asking them to digitalise their services via YouTube or Instagram to create another bespoke schedule of activities for each week in lockdown.

There is a range of activities to suit different interests and abilities from basketball, HIIT and boxing, to adapted sports, yoga and street dance.

All sessions are live in after-school hours, so late afternoon/evenings during the week and weekends but can also be accessed on YouTube anytime afterwards.

Police & Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne commented: “This is a fantastic way for families to keep active at home and I want to thank all of the instructors who are taking part in this movement.

“Entering into a second lockdown period is a disheartening and challenging time for everyone, especially young people.

We all need to keep active and to look after our general wellbeing but it’s still important to stay at home where possible, so I’m incredibly pleased that we are able to offer a way that families can do both.

“This will be a welcome distraction and provide a positive structure for the many young people within REBOOT who we know are struggling with the Covid guidelines that are currently in place.”

These sessions will be available to all families for FREE. The full schedule can be found here: www.activesussex.org/reboot
