Blood donors urged to continue as normal

The NHS is urging blood, plasma and platelet donors to attend appointments as normal.

Giving blood and plasma is classed as essential travel (even in Tier 4 areas) and donation sessions will remain open, with appointments remaining in place.

NHS Blood and Transplant are appealing for donors to make an appointment over Christmas and New Year if they don’t already have one. Donors are also asked to keep to their appointment if they can, to help build blood stocks ahead of a potentially challenging winter period.

The only two days of the year that blood donations are not collected is Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Extra safety measures are in place, including temperature checks on arrival.

You can book and appointment and check the latest guidance on giving blood by calling 0300 123 23 23, downloading the NHS Give Blood app, or by visiting blood.co.uk.
