We have been very saddened to learn that award winning Uckfield based Ferrier Declan Emmerson has been involved in a tragic accident at work, the 29 year old won an outstanding apprentice award from the Warwickshire College Group in 2016 and has his own business
Declan suffered a horrendous accident whilst at work, in March where he was kicked in the face by a horse. The accident resulted in numerous fractures to his skull and jaw as well as several fractured teeth. Declan had to be hospitalised for five days.
Fortunately, he has recovered well however he is still suffering from pain due to his moved and broken teeth. The dental work which is required will cost thousands of pounds and although he has reached out to the appropriate charities for farriers who suffer injury at work, he has not been able to get the help he needs.
Declan’s Friends inspired by Dominic Jones have decided to conduct a 24hr challenge to raise funds towards his dental care, the 24 hour shoe making session in the forge on the 12th of December, where Declan, Grant and Dominic will make horse shoes continuously for a whole day and night to raise money, so he can finally get the essential dental work he needs to restore his full set of teeth!
This challenge will be both physically and mentally demanding so they are asking people in the community to donate where possible.

We wish the team all the best on the 12th, and Declan a speedy recovery!
