In the weekend’s local football, AFC Uckfield Town suffered a fourth successive postponement at the Oaks, as their game with Hassocks was called off due to an unfit pitch.  Uckfield will be hoping that the pitch will be playable tomorrow evening when they are due to host Crawley Down Gatwick.

In the Mid Sussex League, Ridgewood lost three-one at Sidley, while Nutley went down to a five-nil home defeat by West Hoathly.  Elsewhere, Buxted won one-nil at Montpelier Villa Reserves, and Fletching were two-nil winners over Willingdon Athletic Reserves.

Meanwhile, Newick’s cup match at Eastbourne Athletic was postponed.

There was another disappointing result for Lewes, who are now only two points above the relegation zone in the Betvictor Premier Division, after a one-nil defeat at home to the bottom club Brightlingsea Regent.

And in the Premier League, Brighton and Hove Albion secured a hard-earned point from a one-all draw at high-flying Sheffield United.

In rugby union, Uckfield went down to a 25-15 defeat at home to the league leaders Ashford.

Finally, today’s race meeting at Plumpton Racecourse has been abandoned due to a waterlogged course.
