In the weekend’s local football, AFC Uckfield Town marked their return to the Oaks for the first time since the end of October with a one-nil victory over Langney Wanderers in the Southern Combination League. Substitute Ellis Cormack scored the winning goal with just three minutes left. Uckfield are due back at the Oaks tomorrow evening for the visit of Crawley Down Gatwick with a 7.30 pm kick-off.
In the Mid Sussex League, Ridgewood defeated Hurstpierpoint three-one. Maresfield were four-two winners over AFC Uckfield Town’s fourth team. Elsewhere, Buxted drew two-all at home to AFC Acorns, whilst Nutley lost three-two at Mile Oak Reserves.
Meanwhile, the games involving Fletching and Newick were both postponed.
Lewes were beaten by the only goal at home to Carshalton in the Betvictor Premier Division.
And in the Premier League, Brighton and Hove Albion also went down to defeat by the only goal at Everton.
Finally, in rugby union, Uckfield lost their first match since the Christmas break – they were beaten 34 points to nil at Pulborough.
