In Saturday’s local football, it was a bad day at the office for AFC Uckfield Town, as they went down to a three-one defeat at Horsham YMCA. After the hosts took a first-half lead, Uckfield equalised on the hour with a goal from Ellis Cormack, before Horsham YMCA scored twice in the last half hour. Uckfield’s cause wasn’t helped when they had two players sent off and were reduced to eight men after another was sin-binned.
Uckfield are due back in action tomorrow evening, when they host Peacehaven and Telscombe in the semi-final of the Sussex RUR Cup. Kick-off at the Oaks is at 7.30 pm.
In the Mid Sussex League, Ridgewood lost three-nil to Crawley Devils, whilst Nutley were beaten three-two at Ashurst Wood and Maresfield lost four-two at home to Ditchling Reserves.
In the Betvictor Premier Division, Lewes went down to a two-one defeat at Cray Wanderers.
Meanwhile, Brighton and Hove Albion had to settle for a point after a one-all draw with Aston Villa at the Amex Stadium. The Seagulls face another key game tomorrow evening, when they travel along the south coast to face struggling Bournemouth.
Finally, in rugby union, Uckfield were involved in the rarest of scorelines on Saturday, drawing nil-nil with Park House at Hempstead Fields.
