Having elected to bat in the sweltering heat, Nutley threw away the chance of a big score having got themselves into a commanding position.
A third wicket stand of 103 between Alan Poulter (55) and Nick Avis (39) took the score to 145 for 3 before collapsing to 166 all out. Mark Evans (5/36) bowled well taking 4 for 12 in his second spell and was well supported by Rich Allum (3/23). Ian Ritchie (24) was the only other Nutley batsman to reach double figures.
Newick’s reply started confidently before an excellent direct hit run out by Nick Parsons sparked a flurry of four wickets falling for 22 runs as the hosts stumbled to 43 for 4. However, Liam Russ (55) and Chris Moore (23 rtd) set about rebuilding the innings and when Moore retired as the heat got to him Nick Geddie (34) carried on the good work to see Newick to victory at 167 for 6. Warren Freer (2/15) was the pick of Nutley’s bowlers.
