Latest News – The story! …..Throughout the game on Sunday Buxted had an inkling that Mayfield were fielding an ineligible player.
The club researched straight after the game and sent a query to the cup organisers. They responded on Wednesday finding the Buxted CC query to be true.
Therefore, Mayfield have been removed from the cup and Buxted have taken their place in the Second Round. Which incidentally, has been conceded by the opposition Hadlow Down, so Buxted Park CC are in the Third Round week Sunday!

After Saturday’s washout, Buxted Park met a very strong Mayfield in the National Village Cup on Sunday.
With a big crowd building, Mayfield won the toss and elected to bowl in windy conditions. Openers Alfie Hunter (6) and Tom Clift (6) got off to a gritty start before Tom Clift was bowled by Matt Cooke. This brought Redding Barnes (25) to the crease who looked in good nick. Buxted struggled to move the run rate on though, and after losing a couple more batsman cheaply, they found themselves 49-5. Gareth Clift (25) and Finley Coddington (26) looked to speed up the run rate, and did so with some lusty blows all around the ground. At 108-7, Buxted would have hoped to add a few more to their total, but this wasnt to be, as Mayfield very quickly cleared up the tail.

In Mayfield’s innings, openers Ben Fitchet (19) and Harry Lloyd (44) looked untroubled by the opening bowlers, who struggled to find their line and length in the early overs. Only Harry Marchesi (2-34) was able to make any dents into the Mayfield batting order, who got comfortably over the line with 8 wickets in hand, and almost 20 overs left to spare.
Buxted rightly feel disappointed with the performance, but it was also a good chance to see how far off the top level of Cricket the young players are. Who knows, in a few years time we may be speaking about a very different outcome.
