Sussex-based Children’s Charity Hopes To Raise £20,000 With Virtual Quiz

Horsham-based children’s charity Action Medical Research is holding a weekly virtual quiz on Facebook.

Listen to Paula Ray interview with Jacqui Rushton on the Friday 1st May morning show:

‘Let’s Get Quizzical’ was launched on 7 April and has proved so popular, its run has been extended throughout May.

Paula Ray is the charity’s Community Fundraising Manager for Sussex: “We’ve never done something like this before, but we have been blown away by its success.

“Our presenter Paul Martin is brilliant. He’s a professional magician who has hosted a number of fundraising events for us across the South East over the last few years.

“He’s very funny and his tricks are amazing. With his help, we hope to raise a total of £20,000 which will help our fight for tiny lives.”

Action is the leading UK-wide charity funding vital research to help sick and disabled babies, children and young people.

Sadly, a number of its annual fundraising events have had to be cancelled or postponed over the coming months.

It has therefore launched a number of ‘Isolation Challenges’ ( to try and help keep families entertained throughout the lockdown.

‘Let’s Get Quizzical’ is one of those.

Paula adds: “Our ability to fund vital research relies entirely on voluntary support. So much of our income comes from events that people take part in.

“With so many of these events now having to be cancelled, we know we have a big gap to fill, urgently. And so we need your help now more than ever.”

Supporters will be able to watch the quiz live from 7.30pm on Tuesday nights on the Action Medical Research Facebook page.

The quiz includes five general knowledge rounds. There are no prizes, but families are invited to take part for bragging rights and a fun night in!

Host Paul Martin says he can’t wait for the next one: “Action is a fantastic charity and I am so proud to continue my support in the virtual world.

“It’s a difficult time for everyone right now and we just want to give families something fun to do on a Tuesday night. Hopefully this will help raise some funds for a great cause too.”

There is a suggested donation of £2 which can be made on the quiz’s Just Giving page
