In the weekend’s local cricket, Uckfield Anderida went down to an agonising one-wicket defeat at Robertsbridge. Batting first, Uckfield posted a challenging 225, thanks to 90 from Matt Reed and 82 from David Tungate, but the home side squeezed home with their last pair at the crease.
There was also another tight finish for Buxted Park, as they lost by just two runs at home to East Grinstead’s second team.
Elsewhere, Isfield were bowled out for only 64 to go down to a three-wicket defeat by East Dean and Friston, while Newick lost by 86 runs at Lewes Priory.
Fletching had a good seven-wicket victory at Pevensey. And an unbeaten 102 from Ian Ritchie helped Nutley to a 48-run win at Willingdon’s second team.
Maresfield lost by 95 runs at Herstmonceux, and Blackboys were beaten by three wickets by the Kerala Strikers.
Meanwhile, Sussex’s county team begin their latest Championship match this morning, when they visit Northamptonshire.
Finally, in speedway, the Eastbourne Eagles lost their second successive home match by just a single point, as they were beaten 45-44 by the Glasgow Tigers at the Arlington Stadium on Saturday night. The Eagles also lost the first part of the weekend double-header by 56 points to 33 in Glasgow on Friday night.
