AFC Uckfield Town will be hoping to round off a memorable season by bringing home a trophy when they take on Saltdean United in the final of the Peter Bentley Cup on Bank Holiday Monday.
Uckfield finished their league campaign in seventh place and Saltdean fifth, and with the previous league meetings between the two teams being closely-fought affairs, another exciting game is in prospect. Monday’s final is being played at Hassocks ground and will kick-off at eleven o’clock.
Elsewhere in football, Brighton and Hove Albion go into the penultimate weekend of the Premier League season, knowing that their survival will be assured with a victory at Arsenal on Sunday afternoon or if Cardiff fail to win at home to Crystal Palace tomorrow.
It’s the first weekend of the new Sussex Cricket League season for our local teams. Uckfield Anderida begin their campaign in Division Seven East with a trip to Polegate and Stone Cross. Buxted Park start off with a home clash against Crowhurst Park, whilst Isfield host Bells Yew Green. Elsewhere, Newick visit Ringmer, and there are also away fixtures for Fletching, Maresfield, Nutley and Blackboys.
Meanwhile, the Sussex Sharks pay their annual visit to the Saffrons in Eastbourne on Sunday for their latest Royal London One-Day Cup group match against Gloucestershire. Yesterday, the Sharks narrowly failed to pull off another stunning run chase, going down to Hampshire by just nine runs after being set 356.
Among the weekend’s local bowls action, Newick entertain neighbours Uckfield on Bank Holiday Monday.
And finally, the Eastbourne Eagles speedway team look to continue their impressive start to the new season with back-to-back fixtures this weekend against the Leicester Lions in the Championship. The Eagles travel up to the East Midlands tomorrow evening, before the two teams meet again on Sunday afternoon, with a 3.30 start at the Arlington Stadium.
