Uckfield returned to league action and to Hampstead Fields on Saturday looking to achieve a crucial first league win of the season.
Uckfield were forced to make a number of changes due to having many regular first team players unavailable due to injury and other commitments.
The Acorns welcomed David Guyton, Harry Smith, and youngster Cullum Harvey to make first team debuts in the London Leagues.
Taking to the field with new club sponsor, Landmark Civil Engineering, displayed on the 2019/2020 jerseys Uckfield were determined to register the first victory of the campaign.
The Acorns started brightly pushing hard and playing expansive rugby in wet conditions. It only took 6 minutes before a well taken penalty by scrum half, Pratt broke the line before Steve Hartfield raced over from 10 meters. Old Dunstonians did then show some dominance with powerful ball runners. Scoring their opening try at the 10 minutes mark after a number of close range attacks.
The next 25 minutes would be all the Acorns; with tries coming from new boy Harvey, Captain Matthew Evans and replacement Tristan Douglas following a 15 meter catch and drive by the Uckfield forward pack. Charlie Buckland converted all four Uckfield tries, and was having an assured performance with the boot and ball in hand.
Half Time 26-7
The second half was a much tighter affair as the weather turned from poor to awful. Uckfield tried to keep playing rugby and had a number of opportunities missed. Buckland did managed to race over for his own score at 50 minutes which he duly converted but the second half was largely a back and forth tussle between the two sides.
The game ended 33-12 to Uckfield, a bonus point victory and a step in the right direction.
Given that a number of debuts were made and some new combinations had to be established Uckfield look forward to the battles which lay ahead.
