In Saturday’s local football, AFC Uckfield Town had their home game with Crawley Down Gatwick abandoned at half-time due to an injury to one of the assistant referees. Uckfield were trailing one-nil at the time.
There were plenty of goals in the matches involving our main local village teams. Ridgewood drew four-all with Peacehaven and Telscombe Reserves. It was also honours even for Buxted, who drew two-all at Lindfield Reserves. Elsewhere, Fletching won seven-three at AFC Varndeanians’ third team, while Newick were six-one winners over Buxted Reserves. But, there were heavy defeats for Nutley, who lost six-nil at home to Sidley, and for Maresfield, who crashed to a nine-nil defeat at Barcombe.
Lewes were without a game over the weekend. But, there was a tremendous victory for Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League, as they defeated Tottenham three-nil at the Amex Stadium.
In rugby union, there was another disappointing result for Uckfield, who went down to defeat by Vigo by 18 points to eight at Hempstead Fields.
Meanwhile, Newick lost 33-5 at home to Shoreham.
