In Saturday’s local cricket, there was disappointment for Uckfield Anderida, as they lost to the bottom club Iden at the Victoria Ground. An unbeaten 125 from David Tungate – his second consecutive century – helped Uckfield reach 216 for six, but the visitors successfully chased down their target with five wickets in hand.
Elsewhere, it was a good day for our main local teams. Buxted Park won their top-of-the-table clash with Glynde and Beddingham by 114 runs, thanks mainly to 111 not out from Tom Clift.
Newick won their first match of the season in emphatic style, dismissing Battle for just 84, and then easing to a ten-wicket victory.
A five-wicket haul from Huw Williams helped Isfield to a 91-run win at Heathfield Park.
Maresfield won by six wickets at Bells Yew Green’s second team. Fletching had a comfortable seven-wicket victory at Glynde and Bellingham’ second team.
And there were also convincing wins for Blackboys, who beat Polegate and Stone Cross’s second eleven by nine wickets, and for Nutley, who won by 102 runs at Hailsham’s third team.
Meanwhile, Sussex’s county team had the better of the opening day of their Championship match with Middlesex at Lords. Sussex bowled out the home side for just 138, and they’ll resume this morning on 169 for four – a lead of 31.
