The Division 6 East league title was secured on Saturday by Fletching with victory over Crowhurst Park CC – 2nd XI.
It was their 10th league victory in a row and their 15th this season.
Fletching elected to bat on a glorious afternoon but were quickly a wicket down as Ben Pullan fell LBW. Captain Ben Chapman scored freely in a hundred partnership with all-rounder Ben McIntosh as the Crowhurst Park bowlers began to toil. McIntosh fell after a watchful 28 which brought the in-form Arthur Pickard to the crease.
The two batsman scored quickly as Pickard took no time to find his rhythm whilst Chapman went to his hundred in the 23rd over. A run-out saw Chapman finish on 110 of 91 balls with the score on 186 as Tom Randle joined Pickard. This pair brought up the second hundred partnership of the innings with Pickard racing to 82 and Randle launching a couple of enormous sixes. With so many wickets in hand it was inevitable that Fletching were going to finish on a huge total. 335-5 was Fletching’s highest score of the season.
The tall order of the run chase was made harder as Ben McIntosh clean bowled the Crowhurst opener in the 2nd over and with Hector MacLean proving difficult to score off the game was all but over after 10 overs. Leading wicket taker Ben Jackson and form bowler Ben Langman bowled a tight 16 overs with the latter picking up 3 wickets. It was left to Ollie McIntosh and Jamie McIntosh to wrap the game up with 1 and 3 wickets respectively as Crowhurst Park were all out for 167 in the 37th over. Fittingly the final wicket was a smart stumping from stalwart Steve Walker.
