Having been asked to bat by nine man Willingdon, Nutley made a positive start with singles and twos being available around the ground.
A second wicket partnership of 145 between Ian Ritchie (103no) and Clive Croft (55) put Nutley into a commanding position. Ritchie carried his bat as he rolled back the years with an innings of both patience and aggression while Croft has quickly established himself as an asset to the team this season with his positive batting. Nutley closed on 240 for 4 with the host fielders sticking manfully to their task to cover their shortage on a large outfield.
In reply Willingdon lost an early wicket before setting off on an unlikely run chase but when the fourth wicket fell the chase was all but over as Paul Carter (3/33) kept things in check. Richard Cooknell (85no) also batted through and with Simon Eldridge (41no) was content to gather a few batting bonus points to close on 192 for 4 and see Nutley’s unbeaten start continue.
