Batting ….David Tungate 114… Peter Holman 61 not out
On a warm day at the Victoria Ground Uckfield hosted Lewes St Michael’s in search of their first league win of the season.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Uckfield made a really good start, with Moore and Andrew Shelley going at four runs an over in the first ten overs. As the former departed, it brought David Tungate to the crease. Andrew Shelley batted really well, but once he was dismissed by the very impressive Billy Oliver for 36, Pete Holman came in to bat. Tungate and Holman put on a century stand, taking advantage of the quick outfield, small boundary to one side and excellent batting track. Tungate reached his 100 in the 36th over, only to depart a couple of overs later, edging behind off Matt Pilar. Pilar picked up his second wicket straight after, however Uckfield got themselves to 265-4 off 40 overs, Holman finishing on 61 not out.
Lewes St Michael’s came out with attacking intent, but they were stopped in their tracks by two early James Harvey wickets. Joe Whiting played some terrific drives, putting the Uckfield bowlers under pressure. However, a terrific over from Paul Iswariah turned the game, getting Whiting out and then taking a caught and bowled chance, Iswariah finished with figures of 3 wickets for just 7 runs off 5 overs. From 100-5, Lewes were always up against it. Manthan Vyas, fresh from some excellent performances for the 2nd XI in the last couple of weeks, bowled a terrific spell, to limit Lewes St Michael’s to 174 all out. It was a great win for Uckfield, and a fantastic team performance.
Uckfield Anderida’s next game is next Saturday at home to Iden.
Meanwhile the 2nd XI travelled to Tunbridge Wells and were soundly beaten after Uckfield failed to take their catches in the field and then performed poorly with the bat.
