Weekend sports hit by weather

In the weekend’s local football, AFC Uckfield Town’s scheduled home fixture with Crawley Down Gatwick was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at the Oaks writes David Eggleston

Uckfield are next due in action tomorrow evening, when they visit Eastbourne Town in the Southern Combination League.

The weather again severely disrupted the local village football programme.  Only Nutley of our main local teams managed to play – they were beaten three-one at home to Copthorne in a cup match.

Lewes’s game at Corinthian Casuals in the Bostik Premier League was another victim of the weather.

And, it was a disappointing result for Brighton and Hove Albion, as they went down to a three-one defeat by Burnley at the Amex Stadium.

In rugby union, there was another excellent victory for Uckfield, as they beat their nearest rivals Crawley by 32 points to nil at Hempstead Fields.
