The new Wealden Crematorium in Horam will open in May and Uckfield FM were given a preview of the facilities.
At the present time funerals at crematoriums are in Tunbridge Wells, Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings.
The location of Wealden Crematorium is based in the centre of the Wealden district which means the maximum journey from any part of the district to Horam is about 30 minutes.
The entrance is just off the A267 and the approach is along a drive to the very large car park in 32 acres and the car park can facilitate 150 cars.
The funerals will be held hourly and will include Saturdays as well and there a short walk from the car park to the large entrance. It is designed to cater for the wishes of 1,200 people a year.
The chapel can seat up to 120 people but there is plenty of space for people to stand in the room.
There is a Flower Court and a landscaped Garden of Remembrance.
The ceiling slopes towards the front which means that people at the front of the chapel will feel more comfortable in the lower ceilings.
There are facilities to relay the proceedings onto screens and can be relayed via the internet if needed to relatives or friends abroad.
The very latest sound system is provided with a very large selection of music.
The final stone was laid in January 2019 by Wealden Chairman Chris Hardy and details of this can be seen on the following link here.
