In the weekend’s local football, there was another remarkable result for AFC Uckfield Town, as they came back from two-nil down to beat Arundel seven-two at the Oaks.
Arundel stunned the home side by scoring twice in the opening 11 minutes, before Uckfield drew level by half-time and then ran riot in the second half with five more goals for a victory that takes them up to ninth in the Southern Combination Premier Division table. Ellis Cormack netted a hat-trick, and Uckfield’s other scorers were Steve Hickman-Smith with two and Bailo Camara and Matt McLean.
In the Mid Sussex League, there were big wins for Ridgewood, who defeated Chagossian and Mauritian Association five-nil, and for Fletching, who won six-two against Peacehaven and Telscombe’s third team.
Elsewhere, Nutley drew one-apiece with Sovereign Saints. Buxted lost two-nil to Balcombe, whilst Maresfield were beaten by Polegate Town Reserves by the same scoreline.
And in a cup match, Newick lost two-nil to Burgess Hill Albion Reserves.
Like Uckfield, Lewes also came back from two-nil down at home to record a notable win. They scored four times in the final half-hour for a four-two win over Wingate and Finchley in the Bostik Premier League.
And, despite a battling performance, Brighton and Hove Albion went down to a two-one defeat by Manchester United at Old Trafford.
