It was a good weekend for local sport in Uckfield with excellent wins for the town’s senior football and rugby clubs.
AFC Uckfield Town made it four wins in a row in the Southern Combination League, after a four-one victory over Eastbourne United at the Oaks. Matt McLean scored a first-half hat-trick, and Sam Cooper was also on target with a late fourth goal.
Uckfield are due to be in action again at the Oaks tomorrow evening with a clash against title-chasing Newhaven.
Meanwhile, Uckfield rugby club gained revenge for their only defeat of the season earlier this month, as they defeated Burgess Hill by 27 points to 13 at Hempstead Fields.
Turning back to local football, in the Mid Sussex League, Nutley lost three-one at home to Copthorne Reserves, and there was defeat too for Ridgewood, who went down two-nil at Hurstpierpoint. Elsewhere, Maresfield were two-one winners over Hurstpierpoint, while Newick won by the same scoreline against Fairfield. And in a cup game, Fletching lost four-three at Ridgewood Reserves.
It was a disappointing day for Lewes, who were beaten two-one at lowly Harlow in the Bostik Premier League.
And, Brighton and Hove Albion are in the hat for this evening’s fifth round draw of the FA Cup, but they’ll need to get through a replay next week, following a goal-less draw with Championship side West Bromwich at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.
