Uckfield Lions held their annual Big Fun Day and Scarecrow Competition on Luxford Field on Sunday 2nd June, sponsored by Uckfield Specsavers.
The weather was excellent, warm and dry. Visitors enjoyed and participated in a Zumba demonstration by Emma of Emma Naylor Fitness, were entertained by the Instep Twirlers, were very impressed with the singing by the Blackboys Primary School Choir and Jimmy the Jester entertained the children with his juggling, magic andworkshop area.
There were stalls around the arena representing many organisations and charities, including GirlGuiding Uckfield, the Kit Wilson Trust, Care for the Carers and many more. Visitors could also enjoy a bouncy castle, raffle, cake stall and BBQ, for those out enjoying the sunshine.
Uckfield Lions have been running a scarecrow competition in the month leading up to the Big Fun Day and 7 scarecrows were bought along to the Big Fun Day for final judging and receive their prizes which were all donated by local shops and businesses. Uckfield Lions would like to thank those businesses and Uckfield Specsavers for their wonderful support. The winners of the three scarecrow categories were Cooper and Sons, Church Coombe Community Association and Mr and Mrs Judge from Castle Rise.
As part of the Uckfield Lions 50th year celebrations,the formal presentation of four new Uckfield Lions benches along the footpath in Luxford Field took place. Uckfield Lions have replaced four benches in Luxford Field and provided a Remembrance Bench along the footpath between the town centre& the Meads Surgery, at the bottom of Streatfield Road. Lion President David Skinner, formally presented the benches to Uckfield Mayor, Spike Mayhew at the Lions Big Fun Day on Sunday
