During late February and March 2019, Uckfield FM conducted an online survey to gauge some information regarding the radio listening habits of people living in the Uckfield and surrounding areas (Postcodes TN22 and BN8).
The station is pleased to report that following that survey, 54% of those questioned had said they had listened to the town’s community radio station at some point over the previous 7 days with 87% saying they listened during the Breakfast and Daytime hours.
According to the survey, Uckfield FM was the most listened to radio station with Heart Sussex (41%) and BBC Radio 2 (40%) behind them.
With the arrival of new technology – the station can say that most people still listen to radio via FM in the car as well at home, but there has been a steady increase of people listening to the station via phone, tablet and smart speakers.
A cross section of males and females through different age groups took part in the survey and in answer to some of the questions asked they said :
80’s music was their most preferred decade of music.
Local news and Travel bulletins were a vital information source they get from the radio
However National & International news, events guides, local topic discussions and local sport they all felt were still important
Mike Skinner, Chairman of Uckfield FM said : “These results are great and continue to prove the need of a local radio service for this area and that over the near 9 years that station has been on air full time, we continue to grow together with our local audience”.
The station is also due to take part in some external audience research and the results of that survey will be provided later in the year.
