Cube storage in Uckfield have donated a stack of toys to Chestnut Tree House following their Big Toy Drop.
The storage company asked local people to donate unwanted toys throughout January, which they then stored and passed onto the charity. “We thought it would be a great opportunity to have a clear out of unwanted toys following Christmas,” says self-storage manager Rod Payne. “And, of course, we wanted to support this great local charity.”
Chestnut Tree House cares for around 300 children with life-shortening conditions, including 60 in East Sussex. They offer respite and end of life care at their hospice building near Arundel and in families’ own homes across East and West Sussex and South East Hampshire.
Cube storage CEO, Mr Robert Bradley, visited the hospice about 8 years ago with his wife and was very impressed with the ethos and care provided. He has supported the charity ever since. “As a company we would like to do more this year to assist Chestnut Tree House in the great work they do caring for children with life-shortening conditions and their families,” he says.
Cube Storage passed the donated toys onto Chestnut Tree House last week. Handing over the toys, Rod commented: “On behalf of everyone at Cube Self Storage we would like to thank the amazing local residents that took the time to drop off toys, books and puzzles. The support was overwhelming and goes to show what a caring community we have. Chestnut Tree House provides such valuable care and support and the toys and money raised will be put to great use. As a company we look forward to continuing our support in the future with the help of our local residents and customers.”
The toys will either be used by the children cared for by Chestnut Tree House or sent to one of their charity shops to help raise vital funds. “Our shops contribute a significant amount to Chestnut Tree House care every year,” says Mikayla Bernstein, Corporate Fundraiser at the charity. “To do that we are always in need of good quality donations, so anything that can’t be used directly by the children we care for will contribute to their care in another way. Wherever they end up, the toys collected by Cube Storage are sure to put a smile on a child’s face. We would like to say a big thank you to Cube Storage and everyone who has donated a toy.”
Chestnut Tree House has a shop at 23 High Street, Uckfield, where you can donate and buy pre-loved items.
