Town Councillor Keith Everett dies

It has been announced that Ridgewood Town Councillor Keith Everett has died.

He was appointed to  Uckfield Town Council in 2015 when he stood as an independent candidate.

Cllr. Everett was a member of the towns General Purpose and Environment & Leisure Committees.

He was also the councils representative with ‘Active Uckfield’ , the ‘Uckfield & District Twinning Association’ and was a member of the organising committee for the annual town event ‘Weald on the Field’

Colleague and friend fellow Councillor Ian Smith said:

‘I first met Keith some years back. I believe it was when Brighter Uckfield volunteers met on a Sunday morning at the Civic Centre, which was at the same time Keith would be found operating the sound system for the Kings Church, who were also meeting there’

‘Keith showed an interest in the work of Brighter Uckfield. He was always keen to be involved in community issues, which was how, over time, he came to put himself up for election to the Town Council in Ridgewood Ward. I helped Keith fill out his nomination papers and guided him through the procedure’

‘Keith was an extremely kind, thoughtful and generous man. Both he and his wife Jenny became good friends of my wife, Lynda, and me’

‘I was extremely saddened to learn today of his sudden passing. It was only on Monday evening that he and I had stopped off for a drink in the Highlands Inn after a Council meeting. We discussed the forthcoming elections and meeting up sometime soon as a foursome for lunch’

‘As I say, Keith was a member of the Kings Church, and his faith was important to him, and guided him into wanting to help the community. May he rest in peace with the God he loved’
