The Royal British Legion Uckfield, launched its annual Poppy Appeal on Saturday

Each year, the Legion organises a countrywide network of Poppy Appeal collectors to meet huge public demand for poppies, the nation’s symbol of Remembrance.

The Poppy Appeal raises about half of the funds needed for our welfare work every year.

This years appeal was launched on the 26th October, when the Legion’s lapel poppies and other items were made available to the public.

Red poppies are worn proudly by the British public from the launch date until Remembrance Sunday the November 11th.

Uckfield Poppy Appeal co-ordinator Diane Ward said  ” The collectors will be out on the street collecting from now until November 10th”

Diane added:  “I would like to thank all the street collectors who were out this Saturday and for the next two weeks.  Without there help we would not be able to raise the funds that we do.

A lot of shops and businesses have Poppy boxes. Thank you Uckfield, last year we raised over £17000, let’s see if we can beat that figure this year”.
