Mrs Elizabeth (Biddy) Backhouse celebrated her 100th birthday at Thornbury Residential Home Uckfield on Friday 30th August surrounded by family including sons Jeremy and Richard, surrounded by cards and inundated with flowers.
A big celebration giving thanks for a sharp mind and ready wit.
Biddy was born in Suffolk living there until she went to college in London studying Music. She drove ambulances in the Blitz in London having joined the Wrens and achieving Second Officer Status.
After the war she met her husband – Ronald – an officer in the Navy, married in 1949 in Essex and they went onto produce 3 sons. The family moved to the Uckfield area in 1962 following the death of her mother (to look after her father).
She was organist at Fairwarp Parish Church for over 40 years and Ron sang in the choir during that time.
Biddy enjoys a wide circle of friends and family who visit her frequently, remaining upbeat especially with her dry wit. A further party is taking place on Saturday 31st August with more members of her family.
