AFC Uckfield Town embark on their new campaign in the Southern Combination League Premier Division in a positive mood, as they look to maintain the momentum from their excellent run in the second half of last season.
The club has been boosted by the news that several key players have signed up again for the coming season, including club captain Richie Welch and last season’s top goalscorer Matt McLean. Anthony Storey will continue in his player-manager role. The club has also added to their squad with some astute new signings, including highly-rated defender Callum Sheriff.
Meanwhile, Uckfield will continue with their policy of bringing through players from their successful youth teams into the first team. This was illustrated when they fielded three sixteen-year olds in the opening pre-season friendly with Crowborough.
Uckfield begin their new league season with a home fixture against Horsham YMCA on Saturday 4 August, before a visit to Newhaven on the following Tuesday.
That will be followed by a big FA Cup tie in the Extra Preliminary Round against Kent side Glebe at the Oaks on 11 August, which will also include a family day and a barbecue. The club are currently seeking a match sponsor for this profile match, offering a great opportunity for a local business to benefit from online and media exposure.
Uckfield will also be hoping to enjoy a good run in the other main national cup competition this year. They have been given a home tie against another team from Kent, Hollands and Blair, in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Vase, which will take place at the Oaks on 1 September.
With a positive outlook on the pitch and some major long-term plans for the club, including a proposed new 3G pitch, it is an exciting time for the town’s senior football club. Anyone from the local community interested in getting involved with the club can contact email@example.com.
