Uckfield and District Lions Club donated £4,715.00 to supply the play pods and play mats for the Soft Play section of the new Children’s Respite Trust Uckfield Centre.
This area will be known as the ‘ Lions Den’. Gavin Fisher, Chief Executive of the Children’s Respite Trust, gave a presentation on the charity’s work to the Club and was presented with the cheque by the Lions Club Vice President David Skinner.
The Children’s Respite Trust provides respite for disabled children and support for their families. Its dedicated team of carers operate throughout Sussex and parts of Surrey and Kent helping families to do the things that the rest of us take for granted, from devoting time and attention to the siblings who inevitably miss-out on so much, to simply getting some rest
The Trust’s centre in Uckfield is being developed to provide day care for disabled children throughout the area. The historic building, which had been derelict for a number of years, was originally the Uckfield Press. Plans for the centre include messy play, soft play, a quiet lounge and kitchen and dining area. In the future the Charity intends to develop a games room and a therapy room.
The Trust’s staff say that the environment will be stimulating and fun, while ensuring that the best possible care is given to the children allowing their families to get a much-needed break. The Children’s Respite Trust is funded entirely through donations and fundraising events and welcomes volunteers. Anyone wishing to get involved is invited to visit www.crtcharity.org for more information.
