AFC Uckfield Town played their second game this week against Peacehaven and Telcombe.
The first game on Tuesday in the Peter Bentley Cup resulted in Uckers winning by 3 – 1. This game was in the Sussex Combination Premier League.
The game started well for Uckers with player/ manager Anthony Storey finding his free kick range just going wide after 4 minutes.
The new signing Taylor Maddock almost made himself an instant hero, but a low effort from the edge of the box just went wide. Shortly after Maddock again .caused chaos in the box, this time with a towering header.
There was a scare for the home team at 21 minutes but a tremendous sliding tackle from Regan Smith kept the game at 0-0 after 21 minutes but the Uckers were lacking a little fluidity and composure in the final third.
There was a great chance for the home team when Shaun Lofts subtle prompting released Callum Smith but the Peacehaven keeper saved well from Callum’s cross.
It was still 0-0 at half time.
Very shortly after the restart Uckers had the ball in the back of the net but was ruled out following a foul. At 59 minutes there was a tremendous Louis Rogers save to keep out a towering header.
At 65 minutes Uckfield had a massive chance when Richie Welch’s header from a deliciously flighter free kick goes just past the post.
Shortly after this the visitors took the lead with a header into the back of Roger’s net by ex Uckers player Tyler Scrafton. 1- 0 after 68 minutes.
Recently signed to Uckers, Gianfranco Mici came on as a substitute to replace Craig Norman.
Uckers started to put pressure on the visitors and Bailo Camara causes chaos in the visitor box and live wire Callum Smith volleys a whisker wide.
Uckers had the ball in the net again from a free kick but was ruled again offside.
Very shortly after against the run of play, the visitors double its lead with a goal from Gus Burton at 78 minutes.
Uckers now put on the pressure with Camara having an effort cleared of the line after rounding the keeper with a typical storming run.
A penalty was awarded to Uckfield which Camara emphatically dispatched into the back of the net. 2-1 down at 87 minutes.
There was a scramble in stoppage time when keeper Louis Rogers can up to try and help score. However, a Harlem Globetrotters impersonation on the line denies and Uckers equalisers. There were call for hand ball but a penalty was turned down.
The game finished 2-1 to visitors.
Before the match Manager Anthony Storey presented Richie Welch with his October player of the month award sponsored by Agon Systems.
